Hi, I'm Minh Duong

I am a multidisciplinary engineer with a unique combination of software engineering and hands-on electromechanical expertise. After earning my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego, I further specialized in robotics, electronics, automation, and advanced manufacturing through the Engineering Technician program at MiraCosta College Technology Career Institute. Professionally, I design PCB layouts, perform electrical and pneumatic testing, troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems, and collaborate across software, electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality products. My experience spans software development, embedded systems, CAD modeling, prototype assembly, hardware validation, and root-cause analysis, giving me the ability to understand products from concept through production. I am particularly passionate about robotics, intelligent automation, embedded hardware, and autonomous systems, and my long-term goal is to contribute to cutting-edge technologies while continuing my education in robotics engineering.

Information about me

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego, where I developed a strong foundation in Java, Python, C++, web development, data analysis, and software engineering. Through projects such as MapMyFuture, the Alphabetical Game, and an AI-based Sudoku Solver, I gained experience with object-oriented programming, debugging, version control, Agile collaboration, and building practical software solutions as part of a team.

To expand beyond software, I completed the Engineering Technician program at MiraCosta College Technology Career Institute, where I gained hands-on experience in electronics, robotics, automation, soldering, electrical testing, pneumatics, PLCs, CAD, mechanical assembly, and troubleshooting. At SMAC, I apply these skills by designing PCB layouts and flex cables, creating SolidWorks for actuator models, performing electrical and pneumatic tests, running and modifying test programs, troubleshooting electromechanical systems, completing PCB rework and soldering, and documenting detailed test results to support product quality and production.

My Timeline

2019 - 2022

A.S Computer Science - Ohlone College

- Coursework: Successfully completed foundational courses in computer science, including Object-Oriented Programming, Data Structures, and Discrete Mathematics.

- Projects: Developed an Alphabetical Game in Java, and WebAdvisor in C++ to streamline course registration and leverage my problem-solving skills.

- Achievements: Graduated with honors, maintaining a GPA of 3.93.

2022 - 2024

B.S. Computer Science - University of California, San Diego

- Coursework: Completed advanced coursework in data structures, algorithms, web development, digital systems design, computer architecture, and artificial intelligence with a focus on search and reasoning.

- Projects: Collaborated with a development team to build MapMyFuture, an interactive fortune-telling web application, and developed an AI-based Sudoku Solver that applied search algorithms and problem-solving techniques to generate valid solutions.

2025

Engineering Technician Program - MiraCosta College Technology Career Institute

- Training: Completed a 600-hour accelerated program with 75% hands-on training in mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems, fluid power, automation, robotics, computer software, manufacturing, and industry-focused troubleshooting.

- Earned: OSHA-30, Lean Yellow Belt, and 5S certifications while participating in industry tours, guest speaker sessions, employment readiness training, and collaborative technical projects.

- Smart Home Automation Project: Designed and assembled a multi-subsystem electromechanical platform integrating mechanical structures, electronics, sensors, and Arduino-based control logic. Modeled and refined 3D-printed and laser-cut components in Fusion 360, developed a secure gate using PIR sensing, RFID authentication, and servo actuation, and built an automated clothesline using weather sensing, a motor-driven pulley, and gearbox assemblies.

- Testing and Validation: Performed system-level testing, calibration, troubleshooting, instrumentation setup, and measurement recording to verify mechanical, electrical, sensor, and control-system performance.

How to Create Your Own Websites

Creating your own website involves a few key steps: choosing a domain name, selecting a hosting provider, and designing the site using web development languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript or using website builders like WordPress. Once built, the site is uploaded to a server to go live. This process gives you a platform to showcase your skills, portfolio, or business online.

How to Become an Expert in Web Design

Web design is a process of conceptualizing, planning, and building a collection of electronic files that determine the layout, colors, text styles, structure, graphics, images, and use of interactive features that deliver pages to your site visitors. Professional Web design helps to make your business appear credible online.

Debugging Tips and Tricks

Debugging is an essential skill in software development that involves identifying and resolving issues in code. Tips and tricks for effective debugging include using debugging tools integrated in IDEs, incorporating print statements, and applying breakpoints to pause code execution. Learning to read error messages closely and using version control to track changes can also significantly aid the debugging process. These techniques help developers fix errors more efficiently, leading to more stable and reliable software.
